After a dinner with friends, I made this trip into the hutongs.


This was shot at New Qianmen Street.


By the cornet of a dean end in a nameless alley.


A bar in the open air, you will enjoy very nice view in the street.


A hutong that is almost gone, only few people stay here.

Last week, I visited a kindergarten. The children in this kindergarten are a little different, they all have problem in hearing. The kindergarten is actually a pre-school teaching them how to properly pronounce and speak.

From July 2nd, a ferocious heat clamped down Beijing. That was the 1st hot day in 2010, I was out in the street for a whole day, by 7:00 PM, the sky came to be like this.

I got to know this proverb from an American lady, all together 6 of us had a 2 days tour around Beijing, the first day 24th was just fine, but still a little foggy, the second day on 25th, the weather was gloomy at first, by evening it was raining and cold.

I am going to Egypt today, there will be very hot. Hopefully when I back, Beijing will be in a real spring.

I walked through the park from west to east, as it was a very cold day, this way kept me a little more warmer with the strong wind went from my back. The park is free as a public park, but to climb up the wall, you will need to go to the ticket office at the east end, it is in the arcade way, the arcade was the passage way for the old railway which connected Beijing and Shenyang in the north-east of Beijing.

Click here for more my last visit to this place. The place is very close to the subway station at the Chongwenmen.

This is the Corner Tower from the Ming Dynasty.

The photo below was the Signal Station of the old railway to Shenyang, if you keep going about 2 KM west, then you will get to the Peking Railway Station, which today is very close to the Tian’anmen Square, and the station is now renovated into a railway museum.

It is an open air market, opened 7 days a week, but the best time to go is on weekend. The market was famous for antique dealings about 10 years ago, today it is famous for the big collections of handicraft works from the neighbouring provinces, but not entirely in the sense of antiques, you can still get some real stuff, but not very easy.

Take it as a fun place for half day shopping, or maybe just a visit to a museum, but not as a serious real antique shopping place, especially when you were told that the stuff you are staring at is from Song or Tang Dynasty…and if you really want to buy it, they will have a story on it, the only thing you can rely on is your own sharp eyes.

The market sells almost anything you can imagine, from the big vase to menus of old cameras, or personal letters, even old private diary, it could be roughly categoried into: porcelain, jade or gem, furnitures, wooden carving, clock (watch), stamps, coins, painting(mostly Chinese paintings), second hand books, newspaper and magezines, old photos (sometime you can find old family album), collections from the Cultural Revolution (Mao’s red books, notebooks, posters, bags)… all of the above could be: seemingly very old or authentic stuff, replica, or just today’s handicraft work. The price may vary a lot from just 10 to several hundres or thousands yuan.
