Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall

The Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall is designed to introduce the long history of Beijing, and the modern urban planning and development. The 16,000 square-meter floor space is distributed on 4 floor levels in the Hall, with 8,000 square meters for exhibits.

On the second floor there is a bronze relief sculpture of The Old City of Beijing which fully depicts the overall layout and characteristics of Beijing in 1949. The sculpture features more than 118,000 houses and 60,000 trees and a large number of alleys, lakes and rivers.

Chinese Ethnic Museum

The whole museum is divided into North Garden and South Garden with an area of 450,000 square meters. There are 16 national villages in the North Garden including those of Qiang, Oroqen and Hezhe ethnic groups.

There is the biggest domestic casting iron sculpture, artificial tropical banyan forest, water-eroded cave, Panlong Waterfall, rock pictures and supernatural wood of Alishan in the North Garden. There is national museum, Sculpture Square and over 20 national villages in the South Garden. All buildings adopt the proportion of 1:1.

National Museum of China

The National Museum of China, a four-storied main building with two symmetrical wings, runs more than 300 meters north and south along the eastern side of Tian’anmen Square.

The building was one of ten famous architectures built in 1959 to mark the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic. It has a rectangular exterior and faces the Great Hall of the People. Twenty-four square pillars make up the magnificent west gate portico.

Zhoukoudian-Peking Man Site

Peking Man Cave was a limestone cave into which, about half a million years ago, Peking Man came to live intermittently until 200,000 years ago. As the cave became gradually filled with Peking Man remains and relics, stones and sands, and so on, a thick deposit was formed consisting of 13 layers which from east to west are about 140 meters long, 2-40 meters wide and about 40 meters deep.
