MANY famous Beijing tourism resorts are proposing an increase in ticket prices to make more profits as well as limit the number of tourists, Beijing News reported today.

More than 20 companies running famous resorts in Beijing, including the Summer Place, Tiantan Park and Beihai Park, attended a local tourism industry conference last week. Most of them said their income dropped last year because of fierce competition and they hoped the authority would raise ticket prices.

Compared with the ticket prices in other cities’ resorts, Beijing resorts’ are much lower, they said. With the establishment of newer resorts and big theme parks, the profits of these resorts kept dropping, they said.

They said raised prices could also help protect the world heritage sites, such as the Summer Palace, as fewer tourists’ visits can decrease the damage of the resorts’ appearance.

Also, they want to collect more from the raised ticket sales for renovations.

These tourism resorts will hold more activities and add new facilities to attract customers.
