July 3rd 2011, some night snapshots in the Hutong area near Qianmen

After the torrential downpour last week, Beijing is not so much humid, and somehow becomes comfortable at night. After a dinner with friends, I made this trip into the hutongs.

Five new subway lines added today

Five new subway lines open this afternoon, four will connect to current subway network, except one (Fangshan Line, by the south west corner) is independently running, maybe next year, it will join to the main system.

By the way, the daily commuters in Beijing’s subway network are…more than 5 million.

Check here for more detail.

I should update more regularly

It’s been quite a while that I didn’t update this blog, the reason is after I changed to a new job, I don’t have much time on Beijing, and one of my camera lens was broken…anyway, this is just an excuse, I will back to my blog next week, with some more topics.

3 steps to send free text message from your gmail

Just recently, Gmail starts its free call service in the North America, for sure this service doesn’t work in China, but there is a good news, you can now send free text-message to mobile phone to following countries…US, Ghana, Israel, Palestinian, Senegal and Zambia.

First step: Login into your Gmail.

Second step: Go to settings – labs – and check these 2 options – click save, then back to your Gmail.

Third step: Now at your Gmail page, you can find this icon at the left bar:

Click at the “phone number”, input your number then “Return”, it pops up something like this way:

Choose from the country list, input the name of the recipient, then here you go:

As Google says, initially, you’re granted a quota of fifty messages, with each message you sent, it decreases by one, but when they reply you (you can get their message from here as well!), your quota will increase by five, for detail please check here.

Enjoy it for now!

Egypt Trip Part V, Hurghada and Alexandria

Hurghada, Alexandria and Memphis were my last three days schedule, I just put them together here. There was about 4 hours drive from Luxor to Hurghada, all the way north east to the Red Sea, there was almost nothing but desert, by the sunset we were at the hotel. The next day was totally free, we joined a tour on a not very new yacht for the Island of Paradise, on the way back, the yacht stopped for snorkeling.

Egypt Trip Part IV, Luxor

Luxor or Thebes, the “world’s greatest open air museum”, was the ancient capital of Egypt. If there is a counterpart of a city in China, I would say Xi’an. Our local guide told me, any dig into the ground, you will find some antiques, private archaeological evacuation is totally forbidden!

Personally I would say Luxor is the most pretty city in Egypt, but it is also the hottest city, not only in the sense of tourists attraction, but in temperature as well, the last rain was 6 years ago.
